Hello guys,

I am going to do my first AR build within the next month, and I have decided to go with an M4 style A2. Just something basic and simple, which I like.

Now, I was originaly going to go with Del-ton for a kit, but Model1Sales has a the kit for a little cheaper, and it has CAR handguards or whatever.

What is the difference? Should I just stick with Del-ton for any reason(they seem to be more prefered). Thanks

Do yourself a favor and add flexibility to your list, I'd suggest a flat-top for no other reason than it's provides a host of options.  Nice and simple.

What do Del-ton or Model1 kits cost now-a-days? Bushmaster is having a Fall sale on M4 uppers.
$450

Some eye candy

From personal experience, I would not recommend Model 1 Sales.  You get what you pay for when it comes to firearms, especially AR15's.

Thanks for the posts guys!

Firs off, I really have my heart set on the A2, I do not want to mess with the optional stuff(im and AK guy). I like my things standard. Thanks though.

I am trying to keep costs down so I can get ammo and mags, so Del-ton's complete kit really is where I wish to go. I think it will about $550 with shipping(chrome lined bore and chamber too), and Model1 will be $25 less. How much would it be to buy the rest of the stuff that the Bushmaster doesn't come with?

I think I will stick with Del-ton then, $25 just isn't worth the lesser quality and compared to Del-ton's good record.

And where did you get the OD green sling, nice M4, exactly what I am going for.

And what was your personal experience?

I know of several that have worked just fine. Upper and lower receivers are the same as everyone else uses, barrels are Shaw. Now their non-brand name carry handles, removable sights and other accesories are questionable. Their brand FF tubes are just fine but I would go with a name for railed handguards, FF or Non FF.

Glad to help. Sling is an M14 (cotton) from Brigade Quartermasters for $9.95. Nylon version is $13.99.

Assuming the Bushmaster upper is sold complete (bolt carrier group included), it would still need a stock and a lower parts kit... Figure another $150 if you order STAG parts.

Check out the IDF/KISS sticky at the top of the "AR Discussions" board. Lots of cool basic AR's like your interested in. I would recommend taking a few days to study as many rifles on here to decide exactly what you want. Having made a quick emotional buy more than once, I ended up modifying a build later to get what I really wanted.

+1 on what Turbo said.  You should really think out what you're going to buy.  I too bought a whole bunch of stuff that I ended up changing.  Cost me some serious coin to get it wrong  I also agree that a flat top should REALLY be considered.  You can put the carry handle/site A2 style right on it.  Then still have the option to go optic/aimpoint/eotech, etc.  Granted, you could do all that with an A2, but your options are slightly less.  If you ever mount a scope, the cheekweld is nonexistent.  Just my 2 cents.
