I took off the butt stock on my pre ban colt today trying to install the adjustable stock I purchased over the weekend. Surprise surprise, it looks as if this buffer tube is permanently fixed on here?

This seem about right? I know Colt did some dumb things on pre ban rifles right before the ban went into effect....

Huh? Did you try twisting it off? Is it pinned or something? Pic?

Should break loose with a 5/8" wrench, using the wrench flat on the end of the tube.

The only one that is pinned are the very early SP1's.

It doesn't have a castle nut to turn though, so are you saying turn the tube itself?

If it's an ordinary rifle buffer tube, then yes.

Yes on the end (where the stock screw goes in) there is a lug sticking out where a 5/8 wrench will fit, just twist it. That is what it is design for. Lefty loosy, righty tighty.

Yes, that worked. Thanks.

Yes, Colt made fixed butt  stocks on some post ban carbines.  The MT6400C M4 carbine had a standard M4 carbine stock that was permanently pinned in the open position.  They were pinned through the buffer tube as I recall.  They are often seen for sale because many owners have since swapped them for the real deal sliding butt stock.  They are easily removed and replaced.
