| I had a gunsmith thread my v-match bushmaster for a brake. He installed a birdcage flash supressor insead of a brake. I ordered a brake with 1/2 28 threads and it would not fit. He said that he must have threaded it with millitary threads. Is this right or wrong? |
No distinction, threads on .223/5.56 barrel muzzles have been 1/2-28 on commercial and military barrels since the 60's. |
No, the chrome lining should be fine. Watch the barrel length, however. |

Your gunsmith is snow-jobbing you. If your 1/2-28 muzzle device will not thread-on, his threads are too large. Ask him what the pitch diameter he cuts his threads to. If he does not know, he is not someone you want threading your barrel. The correct pitch diameter range is between 0.472" and 0.476" |
