| Do flash hiders really hide the flash or do they just reduce it somewhat. I would like to see some pictures taken at night of rifles with and without flash hiders to see the differenct. Also, what is the effect on accuracy? |

Also, what is the effect on accuracy? Actually, a flash hider is distinct from a flash suppressor. Flash suppressors reduce flash, flash hiders might just provide an occultation surface, like old-style WW2 cone flash hiders. A flash hider doesn't reduce the flash at all, just puts a shield between the worst of it and your eyes. Really good flash suppressors, like the Smith Vortex actually reduce almost all of the flash, and some claim a slight boost in accuracy with them, too. Most flash suppressors are neutral on accuracy, and provide varying degrees of flash suppression depending on the ammo used, their design, and barrel length. |

+1 on the Brownells videos. The way I understand it, a good flashider leans out the mixture once it leaves the barrel so it cannot continue to burn. Or in other words, the flammable stuff is still leaving the barrel, it is just not burning. Learned something new again. Thanks |
