Sorry to ask this question, did a search but no answer. Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference? Also, a preban upper has a name- S something, What are the other #'s and letter? Is it SP1? How can you tell who manu. a upper ? I don't see any markings.

Flash suppressor suppresses flash. Muzzle break controls the muzzle flip. TA-DA!

And generally speaking, muzzle breaks will clear a range with the noise it generates. Just a head up.

Generally speaking a flash supressor will have an open front and a muzzle brake will have a closed front.

The A2 flash supressor found on current military M16 series is both a flash supressor and a recoil compensator.

The SP1 would typically come with either a 3 prong flash supressor or a Birdcage flash supressor.
