I have on lay a way, (sorry i cant just drop 1600 bones on a AR like i used to) a new bushy M4 6 posistion stock witha fluted barrel, aotech 552? HDS and m3 laser sight plus flashlight, and of course flip up sights..   my question is after looking at everyones pics and whatnot,  in all sections,  does no-one have a fluted barrel on thier AR's...  is there a reason for that?

As far as I know, it's only for weight reduction, and for the most part, gov't profile barrels are light enough for our liking.

I guess it's all about personal preference.

i was thinking for cooling but since its not a full auto..  that wouldnt be the case it does make sense that it would be lighter..  this thing is the lightest AR i have ever picked up...

My new Olympic Arms K-8 has a fluted barrel tocut the weight down on the 20" Bull barrel.

Shoots real good and will make me the perfect carry weapon for 'yote  hunting.

do you like it?  any con's to a fluted barrel,  i think mine is the 16 also...  i think....   i havent been able to snap any pics of it yet...   would feel kinda odd snapping pics of it at the gun shop...   but i do have a camea phone, maybe i will use that...   8 more weeks and i'll be able to bring her home...

I like my fluted POF!  It is light, and seems to cool off fast.

The flutes are designed to create more surface area and thus cool the bbl faster. One of my M4geries has one.

I have a fluted 16" BM barrel, I like the look, it's unique.  If I ever get a registered lower then it will be handy for full auto, but until then I really just enjoy having something different than yet another M4gery w/ 203 cutout profile.

Fluted Barrels are a good way to get all of the advantages of an HBAR and none of the downsides.

Waste of machine time.

You end up with a barrel that's stiffer for it's weight. You do not get the stiffness of a barrel that's solid of that diameter, but it's stiffer than a lighter weight barrel. On most ARs it's really not needed. If you're building a long range varmit machine you'll be draging all over creation it is useful, but for most aplications it's a bit much.
