| I have a bud that is looking at getting a DPMS fluted barrel. My questsion is, do you think that he should go fluted or bull barrel? |

It depends on what plans he has for the rifle. A bull bbl is generally more for distance shooting. It aids in the balance and stability of the rifle. The advantage to going fluted is that the fluting increased the surface area of the bbl and aids in cooling which is generally a concern for a shooter that engages in activities that require multiple consecutive shots that would cause the bbl to heat up. The fluting also decreases the weight of the bbl and lends this design to be suited for a shooter that will be carrying the rifle for extend periods of time. The down side of fluting is that the bbl is weaker than the same size bbl without fluting. I have chosen a heavy fluted bbl. It's a nice in-between way to go. |
