Know of anyone making fluted chambers in their barrels?
I think POF and LaRue are making something similar, but I'm not sure how their technology compares to fluted chambers like the HK. Mainly curious. |

A fluted chamber in an AR seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. IIRC, The HK has a fluted chamber to make extraction with its 'semi-blowback' or 'delayed blowback' system less hard on the cartridge. |

Oh. The problem exists, just not the way we are used to it. POF and LaRue are doing something along those lines. Is it needed? I don't know. I'm super curious though. My gunsmith put this idea in my head. IM me if you are. |

It's a very decent concept and merits testing...
I have a stainless Rainier Select 10.5" 5.56 barrel that I'd like to try it with. I emailed... I forget his name (Frank something?), but the POF guy; asking if he'd cut the flutes in the barrel. I was told by someone in contact with him that he'd almost certainly be willing to cut the flutes, which should be quick and easy, short turn around, probably relatively cheap. No reply. Will email again eventually. The problem does definitely exist. Normal solution is giving extractor more spring pressure, or more leverage. Extractor o-ring supposedly adds 40% more pressure or something like that. A cheap, easy upgrade. |
