Okay, I got a question guys. I'm looking at upgrading my followers in my GI mags to something like a Magpul Gen 3 follower. I know that's good to go on my 30's. What about the following?

- Can you use them in a GI 20 rounder?
- How about Israeli Orlite or Thermold mags?

Any point in trying to swap out the followers in those, and will they even work?

You will decrease how many rounds your 20 rounder can hold... probably by only 1, maybe 2. I know a 20 round follower will give a 30 round body a capacity of 31... I don't know how it works the other way around though.

No idea on the Orlites or Thermold though.

They will not fit in a USGI 20 round magazine since it's not possible to get it past the floor plate retaining spring without alteration.  Furthermore, the followers in straight 20s need to tilt slightly since the rounds are tapered.

Basically they are fine as is and you're better off leaving them alone since they don't really need 'upgrading' anyway.

Thanks guys. I'll leave the 20's be.

No go on those as well.  The Magpul follower was designed for USGI mags and don't fit.  As a side not, USGI springs fit in Orlite mags.  Thermold mag springs have a slightly different configuration/bend on the bottom.

If you don't like the Magpuls, look into the Stainless Steel ones that CMMG offers.  They can answer your questions.

Magpul followers rock.  The SS CMMG followers are for 30 round USGI mags as well, not Thermold or Orlite.

The Magpuls would probably be fine but I'll take a look at those CMMG ones as well, thanks.

Sounds like I can go ahead and upgrade my 30's and leave the 20's and other mags be. Thanks for the help guys.

No.

You may be able to get them to go in, but you'll lose capacity and not gain any reliability.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

Bobby Bowden is doing a fine job - just leave him alone.

CProducts orange followers are very similar to Magpuls, and cost half as much.  I have some in a few D&H teflon mags and they run smoooooth.
