While cleaning up a newly aquired used mag, I found FOR EXPORT ONLY stamped on the body of the mag (it was under some sort of paint/glue). The mag looked like a USGI and the floor plate had Universal Stamping on it.

Anybody know anything about this? Is this a post-ban mag?

Probably is, most of the mags you see with that marking are for foreign police forces and civilians

I think you meant "General Stamping", which is the company that was formerly known as La Belle Industries.

All General Stamping mags are post-ban, and therefore illegal for normal folks to possess.

Obviously, someone purposely obscured the "Export" stamp on the mag and sold it to you as a pre-ban.  Unfortunately, this is pretty common, as some dealers figure out they can buy NIW post-ban mags for $10, hide the warnings and dates, and sell them to folks for $30 or more.
