Newbie with a new LE6920:
The factory forearm has a little play in it.  I want to put forearm rails on it for mounting a front grip and a light... possibly in the future for mounting a scope.  Seems like you'd want the forearm to be pretty solid when mounting equipment to it.

Two questions:
1. Is it normal for the factory forearm to have a little play in it?
2. What would be the best forearm rails to put on it... (I'd rather install myself without cutting off the Delta ring as shown here: http://www.samson-mfg.com/Install.htm)

Get the Daniel defense Omega Rail.  Rock Solid and installs pretty easily.

Looking at the Daniel Defense website, I can't find installation instructions for the Omega Rail... Are these available for review prior to purchase (does anybody have a link I can see?)?

I have the DD Omega rails on my 6920. Installation couldn't be easier:

1) remove old handguards
2) insert top half of Omega rail just like you would insert the upper plastic handguard
3) insert bottom half of Omega rail just like you would insert the lower plastic handguard
4) using four screws provided, attach lower rail to upper rail
5) tighten Allen screws at the rear of the rails
6) you're done

That certainly sounds easy.  So the assembly installs just like the factory forearm, but also has some screws to hold it tight?
I have the DD Omega rails on my 6920.
: Are these rails tight (i.e. no play at all?)

Yes. The DD Omega Rails are great on my 6920.

Very easy to install and very solid.

I used Yankee Hill Machine hand guard rail.  they go on just like handguards no screws like the DD but not as secure.  I loved them and had no problems attaching anything to the rails.  I got them for $90 shipped on ebay.  They DD is a much better rail overall but depending on your price range the YHM is a good alternative.  If you do go with YHM make sure you get the one for Colt the others will not fit.

The Omega rails install like you said. They are a free float design, and they are very tight.

Here's a pic of my 6920 all decked out with the Omegas, Magpul MIAD grip, Magpul MOE stock, TA31A ACOG on LaRue LT-100 mount, Surefire G2 LED on LaRue offset light mount, and a Grip Pod (soon to be replaced by a LaRue FUG).

OP, I'm new to AR's, too. I followed the Weapon Evolution instructions referenced in the link above (thank you, Stick!) and installed a DD Omega rail in about two minutes flat. It was a piece of cake to install and the rail is rock solid.
