I'm currently in possession of a DPMS lower that I believe might be cast and not forged. Can someone shed some light on this for me? It is marked as follows:
D.P.M.S INC
BECKER, MN
CAL 223
MOD:A-15
SN:171XX

Thanks in advance.

Need a pic..

Are the letters raised or embossed/engraved in the lower?

Drop it on concrete.

If it shatters, its cast.

If it cracks, its forged.

I thaught all DPMS stuff was forged,  lower parts kits inc.

DPMS forged lowers have a SN that starts with an "F" followed by 6 digits.  5 digits and no F is cast.

Upon closer inspection I have to believe this lower is in fact a cast lower. Thanks to everyone for your help. The "required" information is recessed but it doesn't look engraved. The "Fire" & "Safe" are raised. Looking into the magwell it looks kind of course, not machined, it might just be the finish but, I don't think so. I do know that this lower began life as a ban-era AR15A2 16"HBar Carbine. I plan on useing this lower for a paper punching M16A1 clone so it should work just fine.
