I bought a DPMS  AP4 a while back. Put around 5k rounds through it without issue, and I've slowly changed and replaced things on it. By this point I'm not even sure you can call it a DPMS anymore honestly. Lol.

I'm bored, and thought I would show it off a little.

http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll331/thx997303/temporary-23.jpg

Slightly old pic, and it sports a red dot now.

It has the following:
Phantom 5C2 flash hider
MOE carbine handguard
Magpul RVG
Streamlight polytac
Boonie Packer 2P TQA sling
MOE+ grip
MOE trigger guard
JP tactical trigger springs
Vltor A5 buffer assembly
B5 SOPMOD stock.
BCM extractor upgrade kit.
And it currently has a Primary Arms micro dot.

I intend to replace the barrel with a 14.5" from BCM once I get the money. I like it better than a 16"
I have a spare BCM bolt just in case the DPMS bolt ever has issues, though by this point I don't expect any.
Staking on the gas key was strong when I got it, still is.

Anyway, there it is. I'm somewhat less bored now.

Looks like a solid carbine to me, why not just send the barrel off to ADCO to have it cut down and profiled for a 14.5"?

Or just get a BCM 14.5" Upper and start a new rifle...

Well, the thought at this point is, my wife wants an ar, but she isn't likely to shoot it much, so the 16" non chrome lined barrel can go on her rifle, and the BCM barrel can go on mine.

Then, everybody's happy!

It might be cheaper and easier in the long run to just get the BCM upper in the configuration you want and then put your current upper on a lower set up for her.

Win win either way.

Yeah, it could be.

The issue is, I never have the money to buy a complete upper at any point, but I can usually swing the cost of a barrel.

This way, I can just build her rifle up slowly, and kill two birds with one stone on the barrel.

Though if I can manage it, I may do a complete upper. Who knows. Time will tell.

Whoa...there is no way a DPMS anything could hold up to 5000 rounds.

Ain't no flies on that black stick: solid little carbine.

I'm still a fan of the MOE handguards.  They're light, cheap, good looking, and let you fit gear to them pretty easily: what's not to love?  And dang if everyone doesn't seem to love the SOPMOD stock, particularly the less espensive B5.

How do you like the Phantom?

I love mine, I've had two. Sold the first one awhile back.  I had stopped counting after I had 8000 rounds through it so it ended up somewhere between 8000 and 12000 without one problem.

I like the idea of building one up slowly. I'm attempting to do the same but I'm so damn impatient I keep buying stuff lol

I am thinking about buying a DPMS  light weight upper just for the barrel. Other parts would be used to build a beater second AR

I like the phantom a lot. I have only done limited low light shooting, but when I did, there seems to be significantly less muzzle flush from the phantom than from the birdcage it originally had.

I also like the looks. I don't imagine I'll ever use the pointy end to stab anything, but I really didn't like the look of the flat fronted phantom.
