Do I need barrel shims from a Fortis rail install?

I feel like my ejection port cover ROD is hitting or bottoming out on my barrel nut.
Everything was seated, lined up, torqued, greased, re-torqued, seated, blah blah appropriately. 45-50ft-lbs.

The upper half of the Fortis rail fit perfectly.. but I had interference with the lower half clam shell and the dust cover rod.

Voodoo barrel
Seekins SP223 upper
Fortis Rail
PSA barrel nut.

I also have a spikes shim kit that I have been messing with too.

I'd either get shims or remove the rod and cut a 1/16" off the end and reinstall for a test fit. If it fits then id just dab the end of the rod in model paint and be done

K that's what I thought.
Question - spikes shims which I already have.

I assume they can go on either side of the extension?

Meaning 2 places-
One in-between the receiver face and the barrel

-The other

Between the barrel nut face and the extension face.
Correct?

I see literally no need to put them on the receiver side.. but its kind of annoying to have to shim the ar15 barrel nut out. Is that typical?

I'm not sure how typical it is but if you watch this video it shows how to do it. I'm sure it would work fine either way

Also is it just barely bottoming out or like it still has along way to go? One of mine is close but I've personally never ran into this problem before.
