Stag H2 , basic Stag 16" kit gun

Ultra-Max factory ammo

It ejects the rounds about 2 o'clock. The brass get dinged by the deflector that leaves

a mark about 3/4" from the base. I believe the forward ejection is caused by a

riccochet off the deflector. I don't mind the forward ejection but I don't like the ding in

the case. I tried padding the deflector with velcro, but the dust cover is too close to be

able to get the pad right.  The gun is very new. I was wondering if the extractor needed

some time to break in so it would release the case sooner or would a 9mm buffer slow

the BCG timing to solve the dang ding issue. Or do I break out the DREMEL and kiss

the dust cover just a little.

I don't think medication or therapy could make me ignore the ding, so any

suggestions would be appreciated.

Isn't that 'why' we added the deflector?  If it wasn't there, you'd be complaining that the spent case was hitting you in the right shoulder.

How about some pictures / video.  Maybe I'm minimizing this.

Dude, it is supposed to do that.  As for dings on the deflector, again it is supposed to do that.

You may want to look into a heavier buffer/spring as well.  Here's a link that goes into the details:

Here is the deal.. You need a different (lighter) buffer. This is more of a prob with .308 because the brass hitting the deflector will wear away the anodizing rather quickly sometimes.

Looking down the gun is 12 o'clock
Behind you is 6 o'clock

Lighter = towards 12 o'clock
Heavier = towards 6 o'clock
3 o'clock = Awesome!
Tadah!

ETA: I should also mention different weight ammo will produce varying results w/ regard to case deflection.
If you typically use one type of ammo with this rifle you could "tune" it to preform in a more constant manner.
Also different buffer spring strength, extractor springs/O-ring.

Hopefully this is just giving you a different way to look at things.

The people that added the deflector don't reload.  Perhaps the poster does.  Note he did not complain about damage to the deflector, only the case.

Ejector springs are cheap.  You might try grinding it slightly to adjust the tension.  Or try a different bumper under the extractor to tune when it releases the case.

You mean .MIL?  You're right, they don't reload.

Arms_Reach - good information.  Thanks
