View Quote The term Frankengun usually has the connotation of being an AR15 made up of cheap or low quality parts. Is that how you are meaning it in this thread, or are you talking about upper end custom builds? |

You know I actually looked up the definition in the urban dictionary before I posted this I read it to me a specific model of weapon made up of mismatched parts. If it means something else here my bad. I know every forum has its own take on terminology and maybe I havent been here long enough to catch on.

I see your point. I was thinking more along the lines of several different manufactures all piled onto one rifle not just the Brand name x lower mated to brand name y upper.

I've taken it out a few times to sight it in. I haven't shot it past 50 yards yet. |

For any of you using ghetto barrels (i.e., non-Colt/BCM/DD), have you had any issues with out-of spec / tight chambers? Anyone find they needed to have the chamber reamed to true 5.56 NATO?

View Quote ghetto barrels...? I have a couple rifles with dti barrels, and they function 100% and are dead nutz accurate barrels. chambers are close enough and cause no issues for what I use them for |

Is that how you are meaning it in this thread, or are you talking about upper end custom builds? View Quote Stick, my interpretation of a frankengun is a gun assembled with a mix and match of basic AR components by different manufacturers and/or utilities regardless of quality or cost. This does not include forward grips, lights and mounts, lasers or optics (unless the optics completely replace the sights). Remember, Frankenstein was not poor as he lived in a castle. He could have used wealthy parts in his "build". |

My one (and only) rifle is a frankengun. It started life as a Sig 516 but I then mated it with a BCM light-weight upper and a Spike's BCG.

You do realize there are many equal to, or in some cases, better than barrels, than the brands you referenced above??? It was a serious question. I guess for accuracy I should have used an "e.g." instead of "i.e." and also a smiley next to "ghetto" since people are being so sensitive to the way I prefaced my comment and disregarding my actual question. Oh well, I'll take that to mean most have not run into any issues with tight chambers, or not "run" (please forgive me ) their guns to a point where they have noticed any issues. I was just curious. This is a picture thread, after all, so if there are no responses to the question, that's fine too. |
