This has probably been covered, but I'm too lazy to search...

New to AR's and new to the board, but I've got a Stag model 3 with a 16" barrel that I've dropped a Timney 3# trigger into.  My best rested groups with reloads so far are 5 shots within about an inch.

Will a free float handguard make enough difference to notice?  If so, what's the recommended one to get.

BTW, my 19 year old daughter was ringing a 4" gong repeatedly today (first time she's shot a rifle).

Theoretically it will help. It will also eliminate POI change due to pressure on the hand guard. In actuality the results will vary. It made a huge difference in my rifle but that won't always be the case.

Get whichever has the features you seek. There's a lot out there.

When purchasing my upper a few weeks ago I upgraded to a Double Star free floating hand guard for only $50.  It's not the best obviously, but it works.  It's a round 1 piece hand guard.  Not bad for $50 in my opinion.
