| I've got a couple of noob free float questions. I'm basically in the dark about the whole free floating hand guard thing. I understand that having no pressure from the hand guards is good, but that's about it. Can someone point me in the right direction for getting more info or what a good setup is? I see Hogue makes a hand guard...any good? I looked at DPMS and they have lots but no explanations or breakdowns, I'm not quite sure what I really need to buy. Also, is it ok to use the sling off the FSB with a free float tube? Does this put undue pressure on the barrel? Same with a bipod? Someone please clue me in or tell me where to go. |

my .02 free floating and a good trigger will cut you group size in 1/2.. as for a good set up it depends on how much cash you want to spend.a good ol fashion dpms tube will set you back 40.00 (once you buy the tools you will always have them). or you can go with a Yankee Hill ,or PRI or Knight,or Badger,or J&P,Or Clark,or Hyperform,or any of the dozen avaliable.. as for the sling&bi-pod you dont want anything puttin pressure on the barrel thats part of the mojo. go to the tacked threads and look at the pic's find what you think looks cool.one of the things I dont like about FF handguards is they ring when you bump them....and most of the ones I have,I went back and slotted or drilled to increse airflow.JMO here mabe this helps, |
Don't use the sling loop off the FSB once you have free floated the barrel, it would defeat the purpose of free floating. Same goes with bipod. Most free float tubes come with a sling swivel stud for attachment of the quick release swivel type similar to Uncle Mike's swivel. Harris bi pod would attach to this swivel stud also. |
