Are there any free floating handguards that look like normal A2 handguards, i.e. you wouldn't be able to tell it's a free float tube just by appearance?

Yes. Armalite, Fulton and Bushmaster all make DCM (actually it's called the CMP now) uppers and accesories that offer free float hand guard systems. Other after market smiths offer them as well.
