At the ranges that I'll be shooting at, the longest being 100 yards at a range, the hand guard that that is on my "blem" should be good enough.  However I must admit to a real curiosity on how accurate the nitride hardened bore on my mid-length is.  So I'm real tempted to save for a Samson Evolution series 10 free float hand guard.  I've spotted some fairly decent prices for them.  Anybody have any range  reports on them?

I have a Samson Evolution 15" rail on my 20" rifle. Very solid, easy to install. There are lighter ones out there, but I really like it.

I have a Samson evolution on a Stag M8.  Really like its slim & smooth profile, and the ability to add rail sections only where needed.  Overall I am very happy with it.

Samson makes a nice product. Within 100 yards/meters your handguard should be a non-issue, free float or not.

Well uhm it looks like an optical unit will have to be my first purchase if I shoot at anything at a 100 yards

Should not have to be, I shoot at 175m max most times. Man sized steel plates are easy hits with an Aimpoint (1X) or with irons only.

Well the problem with Irons is that I'm right handed and that I wear bifocals.  My right eye is my weakest eye and astigmatic and I have to shift around on the stock to find the sweet spot to get my lower bifocal lens on my front sight and I end up with only part of the stock on my shoulder and time lost getting into position.  I haven't found an adjustable butt plate for a collapsible stock.
By optic I should have stated a reflex sight raised high enough  for my standard cheek weld. I'm looking at a Lucid HD III red dot.

Getting old sucks, when I passed 42 my eyesight started getting crappy up close. Irons started to be a problem, The L'dub marked Troy's work decent for me. Be wary of budget RDS, they usually don't last long.
