I am thinking about putting a free floating forearm on my Bushmaster.  My rifle looks like this:

I want to get something with 4 rails, and preferabily have it open and vented.  I also want something that will not rock at all if I put a foregrip on it, and something sturdy enough to mount sights/scopes and lazers, without having the point of impact shifting.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Between the Larue and the Daniel Defense, which one is thinner, or should I say, which one feels thinner?

Awesome video.  I thought it would be harder than that to install them.  Are there any handguards worth looking at for less $$$?

Tough to beat LaRue for the price.

+1 LaRue

I like my LaRue because of it's locking design feature to prevent the handguard from getting loose.

The only other brand that have the locking design is the Daniel Defense Lite series rails but for more money.

If you would like something that could easily be installed take a look at the Troy two piece FF rails, no need to remove your barrel nut, just cut the delta ring, remove the spring and bolt on the top half of the handguard to the barrel nut, then slide in the lower half.

LaRue is t!ts.

Get a good gas block as well.

Larue feels more round and the DD is more oval, narrower on the sides.  DD is lighter but Larue has a built in QD sling mount in the sides at rear of the rail.

LaRue also has the locking feature over the original DD but the DD lite is installed with cap screws.

If you are light on money and want some ease of installation, I also recommend Midwest Industries for a quality bolt on unit. That is what I have- it is light and there is no movement with my VFG. Samson also makes one of this type, but I think Troy got sued so they do not make it anymore...

The LaRue is 25% more ($299 vs $230) over MI and 15% more then the Troy ($299 vs $255).

With LaRue you get the "extras", the major one being size (bolt on two piece rails have a larger OD), one piece construction and QD mount, this is how I justified a few extra dollars over the other two.

That's where my comment, "LaRue is hard to beat the LaRue for the money." came from.

Of course, YMMV.

Damn, I'm starting to sounds like a LaRue fanboi.

havn't heard anything bad about the YHM (maybe someone can enlighten me) and it's MUCH cheaper.

The YHM rail is ~ 6 oz heavier than the Larue or DD rail.  That is for the mid-length I'm sure it is an ounce or two different for the carbine or rifle length.  But they are heavier.  And it is round in your hand..more so than the DD.  I have not handled a LaRue so can't speak to that.

I have YHM on a couple of rifles and it is a rugged rail that stays in place.  It is 1/3 the price of the others but again, heavier.  They do make the lightweight option now which is a more open tube.  You can see the difference on their web site.

Is it possible with the YHM Light Weight Free Float 4 Rail Forearm that if you mount a forward grip or something similar that you can loosen the barrel nut and pinch the gas tube? (From the torque on the handguard that the forward grip will cause)
