I have an old 16" upper. The barrel is a very thin profile, parked light gray. Based on the faint purple hue, I'm guessing it is a Bushmaster upper.

Anyway, the front sight is definitely way out of line from the rear (A2) sight. What's the best way to correct this? I faintly recall old threads mentioning a big hammer, but that's not what I want to do.

Anyone in the NRV with the tools to fix?

If you can zero out the rifle with the rear sight (even if the rear sight is dam near to one side), you can use a leather mallet to slip the entire barrel in the upper barrel socket.

The blows are made to the FSB just above the barrel while only holding the upper receiver.

If the rifle can not be zeroed (no room left in the rear sight), then the barrel will need to be pulled to confirm it’s not bent, not canted in the upper receiver socket, then if the receiver extension pin is aligned with the gas port, an adjustable front sight base becomes a option to fix the problem.

If I crank the sight WAAAAYYYY over to the right, I can get it just about zeroed.

I'll see if I can score a upper receiver clamping fixture and try the whack-it-with-a-mallet fix.

Thanks.

No fixture needed,

Just set the upper in your lap, hang onto the upper receiver only with your left hand, and with the barrel/FSB handing over your right leg, start slipping the barrel via the leather mallet.

Thanks! One less thing to buy/borrow.
