| I have noticed recently that a lot of the AR's being posted in the pic threads don't have a front sight base. Most of them have longer railed sections with BUS. Are front sights slowly becoming obsolete? |

Are front sights slowly becoming obsolete? You're sure to open up a can of worms with that question. I personally am not a fan of FSBs. I have zero use for one, and don't care for the look. Others will swear by them though. |

| Depends. All my first rifles were low pro. After awhile I started using the FSB and honestly kinda like it. Its cheaper, for me easier to use, and bombproof. I don't have a problem with it interfering with optics that is too noticeable even with an Acog on my A4 clone, so really why not? I think the above guy nailed it, its preference. |

they do? well then, that is just cheating! Quoted:
Optics make movies, Irons make good marksmanship... And that's why the USMC now qualifies with the ACOG. I think that learning on iron sights makes you concentrate more on getting it right, which will make you a better shooter when adding any type of glass. I like the FSB for my 2 cents. |

Troops actually learn to shoot faster because it takes the requirement for multiplane focus away. |

Now days the odds of getting a canted FSB is very high. Ive seen them allot lately from all the top companies. Very few ppl will send them in to have it fixed, so the next best option is to shave it, or replace it with a low pro gas block.
Ive always preferred the longer rail with troy's. I run Aimpoint and keep them flipped down out of the way. Just a better system for me. ymmv. |

I don't know. It's definitely a preference in that both work well. If I had a magnified optic I would want a folding front sight.
I learned to shoot using irons and a sight picture without a post would look unnatural to me. So IMO, a FSB belongs on my ARs. Cheers! -JC |

I've never seen one that couldnt be corrected by a couple smacks with a rubber mallet. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Are front sights slowly becoming obsolete? Fuck no. The A-frame FSB is iconic. It's a symbol of the free world. It will be around forever........ like apple pie. . Anyone that doesn't like the FSB needs some serious counseling in my opinion. Book it. |

Kinda like the classic muscle car look, or modding one with modern custom parts. I like the original look of the A2, and have one, but I also like the freefloat setup, so i have one of those too. I also like the M4 length look with a railed gas block, can put a standard'ish looking front sight on it with a carry handle, and it looks fairly "traditional", or throw on some optics. Have two of those. ![]() So, I'm gonna go with... Whatever the F you want. |

Off to the re-education camps with them ! |

I prefer the fixed FSB for most builds.. /thread. Tough, indestructible. When an ied or drop out of a heli takes out your acog, your irons will still be there. Only rifle i have without is my colt6940 that came with a flip up front sight... And even then it has a fs that is near indestructible too... |

Your post is spot on! I first learned to shot using iron sights. I still do.......I just take my Aim point off and flip up the rear sight. All shooters need to learn with iron sights first. |

Quoted: This is laughable. I've seen more broken/bent front sight posts than broken ACOGs. Irons are slower and less precise than optics. Everyone should know how to use Irons, but I'll take an ACOG, Elcan, Eotech or aimpoint over irons every day of the week.Quoted: I prefer the fixed FSB for most builds.. /thread.
