What is the standard diameter and thread pitch or tap size for the front sight post?  I purchased a KNS front sight post and tried to install it on in the MAKO removable front sight base.  Turns out the threads are different.  I'm assuming the MAKO threads are non standard so I figured I'd drill it out and re-tap it.  The KNS sight post threads are about .007" larger than the Mako sight post.

I've measured the new KNS front sight post with some thread gauges I bought.  I'm pretty certain the threads are #8-36.  I'm going to drill and tap the MAKO sight base to accept the KNS sight post.

There is no Mako front sight base. There is a GMG front sight base that was part of a line that used to be distributed by Mako as a separate line of products. The GMG products are geared toward casual range use or airsoft. They are not military-grade products like the Mako products are. GMG products are now marketed under their own name. Unfortunately, some dealers and distributors listed the GMG products as Mako products, causing confusion for the end users.

If you have a GMG front sight base, the threads are most likely not standard. You can thread it if you like or may want to get a different base, depending on your intended use.
