I was replying to another topic and old age started to kick in.  How wide is the front sight post on in MOA on a 20" and 16" barrel?  I want to say it's something like 8 and 11 moa, but I can't remember if that's right!

I remember a topic a few months back, but it's now in the archives and for some reason or another I can't find it in the archive search.

A little help here!  Thanks!

I dont know
but one can buy different size post

Since I use a Carbeaner I stick with the stock post

Plus at my range it is only 200yard 220 berm

so it works pretty good

Plus Im a Civi and will never shoot BG past 75yards anyway
75 is a stretch

QUIB would know off hand

Heck FMJ, I use to know off hand too, but somewhere along the line that info was ejected out of my brain like a spent shell casing out of a rifle!

Since getting home this has been bothering me, in FM 3-22 in Chapter 7 they relate the front sight covers 1.6" at 15 meters and 16" at 150m.  Whether that's for the rifle or carbine I'm not sure, I'm guessing the rifle.

You can calculate this as follows:

Measure your front sight post width, and call it W.
Measure the approximate distance from your eye to the front sight post, and call it R.

The diameter of a circle that your eye is at the center of and the FSP is at the edge of is 21,600 MOA (360 degrees x 60 minutes/degree), and is also 2 * 3.14 * R inches - call this C.

Your front sight MOA is 21,600 * (W/C).

For example, with a 20" distance from eye to FSP and a 0.1" FSP, it would be:
21,600 * (0.1/(2 * 3.14 * 20)), or 17.2 MOA.
