Hey yall. Im new to ar15.com, and cant figure out the search feature. but i got a simple question, the front sight on a regular ar15, can it be removed and replaced with a rail system? if so, how hard is it?  See Im lookin to get an ar15, and for starters I just want the standard issue, but I wuld like to later on cusomize it.  what yall think?

Roy

Also, as far as quality goes, is there a big difference tween a Smith and Wesson, versus a Stagg?

Yep, you have to buy a new gas block and a front sight or a sight/gasblock combo. I'm in the process of doing the same to my S&W M&P15a, I bought a Yankee Hill folding front sight with gas block. It helps if you have a vise and a upper reciever block to protect ypur gun. You need to kncok out the pins holding the old sight in and carefully remove the gas line without bending, crimping, etc. Installation is the reverse, There is more to it but thats the basics. Do a search for upper reciever assembley and that will be included. Most importatnt thing is to protect that gas tube and make sure you mark the barrel where your old sight is centered so you have a reference. Good luck, I figure it will probably be a 45 min to an hour job. I'm still waiting for my parts.
