Anyone out there know about swapping a front sight post base? I have removed the old, anticipating the arrival of it's replacement. Is it a simple matter of lining up the push pin slots, tapping in the pins and reconnecting the gas tube? Thanks for any input.

Afraid not.  When barrels are manufactured the FSB is slid onto the barrel adn the whole thing is clamped into a fixture so that everything is lined up right and the holes are the drilled through the barrel adn FSB at teh same time.  The only standard that exists for the position of hte holes is that they must go through part of the barrel so that the pins will hold it but not be so close to the center of the barrel that there is a risk of getting into the bore.

If your new FSB is really new then it won't have any holes in it.  If it does have holes in it then the chances of the holes lining up with the holes in the barrel are very slim.

I wish someone would make a clamp-on FSB with bayo lug, rather than using set screws.  Anyone ever seen one like this?
