I have a question. The barrel I plan on using for my retro carbine project has a F marked front sight base. I am going to use a Nodak Spud A1 upper. I know that this has been hashed and rehashed on many forums but has anyone here run into a problem with this set up?

I have the same set-up (NDS upper and F marked FSB) on my GUU-5P build. Mine is a .22 LR and I have no problems at all sighting it in. However, using a Colt A1 upper and a F marked mid length barrel on my "extended" 654 5.56 build I could not get it on paper without filing down the front sight post. I ended up having John Thomas install a non-F marked FSB on my mid length barrel to fix it. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm kind of in a pickle, I'm having the barrel shortened and a moderator pinned on so I'm not sure what to do. I'd hate to get the carbine done and find out I couldn't zero the dang thing but on the other hand I don't want to change front sight unnecessarily. I'm gonna go mail Adco and see what they think as they are who I'm going to have do my barrel work. Thanks for your post.

| At worst as stated file down the sight post or purchase a shorter sight post. Not a big deal. Won't know until you shoot it. Nothing really carved in stone but regardless it's an easy inexpensive fix in less than 5 minutes. Many variables involved with most depending on how operator eyes the sights and cheek weld will both alter POA. A USGI sight post is $2-3 round or square (shorter or taller post will cost more). Usually the problem was with flat tops and removeable carry handles but I've got three FT carbines with non F stamped FSB's that have no issues. Nothing wrong with a plan but probably worrying yourself unnecessarily. |
