After comparing and measuring a couple, it appears to me that the maximum height of the FSB ears above the centerline of the bore is the same for both F marked and non F marked sight bases, regardless of the .040" difference in the height of the front sight post deck.

Can anyone provide the spec measurements, and are they the same? And it would seem that measurement would be independent of whether the FSB is for a .625" barrel or a .750" barrel; is that correct?

The question arises out of a discussion on another gun board. It's been remarked that one disadvantage of having a non F marked FSB on a flattop is that front sight post adjustment to zero may put the top of the sight post above the top of the FSB's ears.

My thought is that since the top of the ears is going to be the same distance above the centerline of the bore for both types of FSB, if your gun requires the sight post to be adjusted to a height above the bore's centerline that pushes it above the top of the ears, it's going to be that way regardless of the FSB being F marked or not.

My fellow correspondents on the other board are not in agreement with me. If I'm missing something, please explain.

You are correct.
