So this is what I have gathered from my reading.

If I want to remove my front fixed sight and with replace it with a flip up sight, I must also install a new gas block, correct?

Preferably one that has the railed top so I can attatch the sight.

I have read and looked at a lot of pictures and I am assuming this is right.

you have 4 options

1. cut down the fsb to make it low pro - there is a tacked thread on how to do this.  if you have a carbine, you would want to get at least a midlength rail to add the front sight to

2.  remove fsb and replace with a low pro gas block. then buy a new rail as stated in #1

3. remove fsb and replace with a railed gas block.  you can then buy a new front sight that sits on the gas block and not the rail.  allowing you to keep a carbine length rail (assuming that is what you have)

4. YHM (maybe others) sells a flip-up sight/gas block combo.  allowing you to keep a carbine length rail (assuming that is what you have)

thanks for the help. I got it now

Yes, I have a carbine.
So my main 3 options would be:

1)  keep the carbine length handguards and buy a front gas block with a railed top to place the front site on.

or

2) buy a low pro gas block and just cover it with a midlength handguard and set the flip up site on it.

3) cut the fsb and cover it with middy hanguards and proceed with step 2

Thanks

I was just getting ready to ask the same question.  I am adding an Aimpoint Comp ML3 and wanted the avability to flip both front and rear sights up to co-witness completly but bown if not needed.  Any opinions on gas blocks with rail or sight? Pics?
Sorry to jump on your thread, but good question.
