Can anyone tell me how to remove the front sight?

It looks like it is held on with two pins.  I have not been able to remove the pins.  Is there a trick?

Thanks

A very popular question here and often times not the easiest task. The pins are usually tapered. Be sure you are hitting the smaller of the two ends! Before you try moving them at all get a can of Kroil ( the oil that creeps) Apply some on the pins and let it work it's magic overnight. If it is not already obvious you must use the proper size punch - obtain a set anywhere tools are sold. Don't pussy foot around taping lightly. Use well directed, controlled force to jar them loose.

If your front sight is not completely supported on a bench for example, your blows will be absorbed and your efforts useless.

Search through this board, there are more threads about removing the front sight base than you will care to read. Good luck.

p.s. You will also have to remove the pin that retains the gas tube. Or hire a smith to do the job

Thanks for the help.

I found that a little oil and a gently rap with a bigger hammer drove the pins out.  That did the trick.

Thanks,
