I have a Colt 6920. I order a front sight tool from Midway but did not fit over the sight (correct number of prongs but the diameter is not right. Any recommendations on brands that will fit. In addtion, anyway of getting around buying this tool?

I had a similar problem with a sight tool that I got from somewhere.  Threw it in the trash where it belonged.  I just use a small allen wrench to depress the plunger, and then turn the front sight post with a  pair of needle nose pliers.  Works fine.

Federal XM193.
'course, I've also used Winchester Q3131A also.

Use the tip of a 5.56 round to depress the detent the tools are really not a necessary expense

Now how would the M855 with the 62g bullet perform in this function - is it worth the extra expense?

I do something close to this.  I use two small allen heads.  One to depress the plunger and another to turn the sight post by sticking it in one of the notches and turning it.

Just shop around...  some of the tools are five prong others have four...   buy the one you don't have any you'll be equipped to turn either front sight...

+1

One time I shot my front sight tool down range.  But I found another one just like it!

I'm sure that'd work, I've just never zero'd a rifle using it.

I don't like the green paint flaking off into the detent and such!

Plastic Q-tip.  No kidding!!  Strip off the cotton from one end and then simply press the plastic tube over the sight.  It's almost like it was made for it.  Press the detent down with whatever will work, and use the Q-tip to turn the sight.  I discovered this when I was cleaning my AR and changed the front sight at the same time.  Put a few in your range bag or cleaning kit and you will always have a sight adjustment tool!!

A bullet tip is always available, and even closer than your range bag.    But the tool is designed to push down on the detent as well as turn it.  I've used a bullet tip because I forgot the tool and it really is a lot easier with the tool.

I actually have two tools, one in each rifle's case.  One is like this one and one is like this one but with 4 prongs instead of 5 to fit an A2 post.  Both came from the local gun show and both fit the sight OK.  The second one is much easier to fit over the post though.  The clearance hole must be just a little bit bigger and the wide part inside is deeper.  If I ever get another one it'll be like the second one again.

Front sight tool?  give me a break.

If you have a flip-up front sight from PRI, then the only sight tool that will work is this one:

You may need to use a file to trim a little here and there to get it to fit properly over the sight post. If you have a 'normal' front sight tower, then the regular front sight tool (pictured below) will work fine...

Which one would I need for a Sabre middy w/ "F marked" FSB?

Either one for a standard style FSB.  Just make sure you get one with the right number of prongs to match your sight.  (5 for round A1, 4 for square A2 and I assume all others).

Thank you, I think it has 4 notches in it for the detent, and I know that the post itself if square for the most part.
