I am running a basic G2 no shock bezel etc, in a fobus mount right now, no serious problems.  I don't want more light.  But what I was thinking of was replacing the G2 with a G2L for the runtime.

Would it work the same?  Is there any difference besides the LED?  Is the G2L available in green?

It should work the same but if you buy a G2L it comes with a metal head as opposed to the G2's plastic head. This allows for better heat dissapation and keeps the LED cooler. Not sure if they come in green, but if not, you could just buy the LED replacement bezel and put it in a green G2.

A G2L will work just like your G2 but will offer a slightly brighter and whiter beam, significantly longer run time, and MUCH greater durability and longevity.

And yes, it is available in green (below is a green G2L that I have mounted on one of my carbines).

How does the "constant on" work with a G2L?  My G2 was a twist on, but I think the newer versions just need a stronger push.

It's just the same.
The G2 and G2L have the same LockOut TailCap. Momentary on/off push button pressure switch. Screw the TailCap onto the body for constant-on output. Back the TailCap off to disable the switch.

Wonderful, this is what I call "standing on the edge". You will end up getting the G2L, and then you will see a photo...kinda like this one below.

Now you will say to yourself...for $55 more, I too could have a G2L that produces this level of illumination for over an hour and a half!
Purchasing a Z49 or Z59 tail-cap will give you click on/off.

You can put a LED module in your existing light, no problem.  The P60L module likes the metal bezel better, and will run in a plastic bezel fine except for a dropoff in output during extended usage, but the Malkoff M60LL (low power version similar to the P60L) runs fine in the plastic bezel due to superior heatsinking.

Both of my P60L LED modules are a bit brighter than the original P60 modules, but are a bit blue-tinged compared to a Malkoff.  They're definitely a bit old-school that way.  Plus, the Malkoff has better run time and better regulation than the Surefire modules in the same output.

They cost a bit more, but are pretty well worth it for serious use.

Is there a metal bezel replacement head for the G2? Or should one just buy the G2L?

Whilst it may be possible to get the exact bezel used by the G2L by calling SureFire, they offer the Z44-BK (Black) and the Z44-HA (natural) standard bezels.
The difference is that the G2L-BK bezel has a Lexan rather than Pyrex window.
Also, the G2L is offered in a variety of colour finishes. The bezels are powder-coated to match the body colour (-YL Yellow, -OD Olive Drab, -TN Tan etc)
