In all fairness, the 16" version of the hunter didn't come out until the g2...so your comparing a 16" to a 20". I think true weight reduction is about 1/2 pound or 8 whole oz...
I don't think it was worth abandoning the original platform. I don't think their were that many people looking to beat their shoulders with a lighter rifle. |

OP, can't tell for sure from the pic, but that substance at the extension tube castle nut could be antiseize. Some are under the impression that antiseize will allow some components to just loosen and fall off, but really it allows a better torque/tightening of many fasteners and acts as a bit of a damper to inhibit vibration loosening. I use it on my castle nuts, barrel nuts, etc. I hope they didn't squizz some rocksett or such on there. That could make for some fun disassembly.
Nice rifle. I'm not a big DPMS fan, but I'd like to see them get this smaller scale .308 AR platform to work. Lighter may induce a little more recoil, but I'm of the opinion that if you get the gas and buffer system well balanced, you can limit aggressive recoil. |
