Hi,
I just switched out my grip for a fobus. While doing so I noticed the screw/bolt looks like hell and is stripping.

The reciever is fine but I want to replace the screw. Im also not sure if its the correct one.
Does any one know if I can just get this part or have dimensions so I can a correct replacement at Loews?

Thanks for your time.

If you need to just pick up a grip screw check www.georgiaprecision.com for the proper item... The screw isn't but a buck or so and they'll ship at a 'light order' rate...

I put a PSG-1 grip on my match AR and needed a slightly longer grip screw.  I found the same screw plus other lengths at ACE Hardware.

Just be careful, too long a screw will lock up the safety.

Replaced my A2 with a SPR and had to get another screw.

I got it, and its perfect.
While at it, I ordered some extra springs and a new bolt catch.

The gun looks perfect except for the grip screw it had and the bolt catch.

All of the lower parts are fine with very slight finish wear but the bolt catch appears to have been filed or rounded over on the right and right rear.

I looked at the bottom of the carrier to see if it had any gouges or anything and it just had normal slight finish wear.

I went to replace the catch but could only get the pin 1/2 way out..WTF? it made me crazy to the point where i stopped b4 i damaged anything. Even when i tried from the other side, it still only came 1/2 way out. Another concer I had was if it is this hard to get the old one out, how hard will it be to get a new one in?

Any ideas on why its not coming out and why the catch would be filed or dremeled?
Thanks

The pin should lightly tap out and then the bolt catch should come out.  Be carefull and use the right size punch.  It sounds like you bought your AR from someone else or assembled one from existing parts?  I have no idea why someone would file or dremel the bolt catch, unless they had some type of bolt catch extension or some other type of accessory attached to the AR and needed to file for clearance.

yes it was used.......I dont mean the outer part of the BC, I mean inside the reciever right in front of the hammer.

Are you sure the punch isn't one of those 'tapered' deals or does the shaft size of the punch stay the same?  If you can push the pin out half way from each direction the pin is not binding.  Either the punch is binding in the bolt catch pin hole or the punch itself is binding somewhere on the receiver itself due to the angle needed to remove the bolt catch pin.

First place I'd look is at your punch and be sure the punch is up to the task.  I've removed the bolt catch pin with small nails when a proper punch wasn't available, so that could be a quick and dirty fix.

Quick and dirty seems the way to go.

Although the punch appears to be ok, it must have been hanging up inside somehow.

The nail worked like a charm.
Thanks Guys!!
