Do it.

I think I’m gonna pick up a 12.5” Noveske ARC barrel if this 11.5” falls a little short of what I’m wanting velocity wise.

Have you ever seen an M16A2 marked lower get that treatment?

Trying to decide if I want to have an engraver mimic that with one of my two A2 govvy marked lowers. The other one will be reserved for that A2 upper you referenced.

The H is surprisingly balanced with that scope too. It's a good, bright scope. Too bright sometimes, it could use a sunshade on sunny days as it will catch some glare. Other than that I can't comlain.

i will NEVER FORGET having the govt TI tell me the older RIS rail front foot went above the front hg cap and made us put them there on some older M4s that came in, thus removing the clamping action. He faulted me for improper installation. oooooooooooo i was livid. i searched through old filed and papers and low and behold i found the original KAC manual for install of it. and there it was. i presented it and he had to eat crow. That pic gave me a WTF?! moment. I bet that was a bitch to install backwards.

I never noticed the odd vs. even T slots. Super easy way to quickly tell them apart. Thanks for that.

M4 RIS / bottom

M4 RIS is numbered backwards and has the screw on the opposite side of the rail.

My last piece of junk was a converted FN M16A2 to M4A1 fresh from depot stocks (it barely worked until I reworked it: A-lot of worn out parts and springs). One reason why most people won't see these for awhile is that they are in war stocks and at depot. There are still plenty of original as issued M4A1's to units still out there in their original units in the S.F./SOF world; they may have been re-barreled and rebuilt multiple times though. Colt M4's were issued out for a long time also and many of them got rebranded as M4A1's. Unless a unit life cycles their weapons or receives them later the chances of seeing one of them are pretty small. One unit I helped some time ago got their M4A1's very late in the game and all of them were rebuilds (From Colt & FN: M4's, M4A1's, M16A2's and M16A4's), they even have their own UID label from depot that are about .200" longer than the standard UID label.

Some Markings are lined out, some are X'ed out some are milled off then either re-stamped or re-engraved. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it (maybe it is an era thing?).

There's a MWO out on the M4 converting them all to M4A1 MWS standard.  Think there's less then 2 yrs left to have them all converted.  Then the M4 will be history and you all will be cloning them.

RIS is odd numbered starting at muzzle end counting towards receiver.
RAS is even numbered starting at receiver and counting towards muzzle.

It's all a matter of perspective. What is the meaning of life?

The RAS numbering is more logical since the numbers are the same regardless of rail length and it lines up with receiver t marks.

These probably aren't issued but I thought this was a neat variation of the RAS:
