Any tips from the Pros in installing these things?  Does one really need a roll pin punch or can you get by without it?

I use vise grips to put most roll pins in, the technique is descibed in Fal's BIY sticky.

Assemble your own AR15 from parts....

Yeah, I tired a regular punch and a small brass hammer.  It didn't work out so well

Roll pin starter punches.

Imagine a regular punch that's about 3x the diameter of the pin.
Now drill a hole in the end that's about 0.005" oversize for the pin.
Drill this hole about half the length of the pin.

In use, the punch aligns the pin and lets you drive the pin half-way into the hole.
After that, a regular rol-pin punch will seat it flush.

I ordered some roll pin punches and roll pin holders yesterday from Brownells.  I should have done that a long time ago!  One spends lots of money on good firearms, one needs to spend some money on the right tools as well.  Thanks!!
