Gents,

I posed this question in the build it yourself forum with no response so hoping for some help here.   I just received shipment of an 18" SPR barrel that is .750 diameter at the gas block.  The problem is it does not come dimpled and I need to put a low profile gas block on it as I am looking to install a 13.2 inch Larue rail.  My question is will the Vltor clamp style gas block fit underneath it or do I need to get a set screw type from LaRue?

If I go the set screw variety can I just place the dimples in the barrel myself?
I have done some research but have had zero luck

thanks in advance

I don't know if the VLTOR clamp on will fit, but I'd suggest going with the LaRue or MI set screw block.

Yes you can dimple it yourself, it's not that hard.  Or you can send it to somplace like ADCO Firearms and they will dimple/install the block, or in many cases pin the block to the barrel (just like the factory Front sight bases).

Rainier has a tool for dimpling your barrel.
Not sure it it works on all diameters...

HERE
A bit spendy for one time use but you could always sell in the EE.
Also out of stock.

I asked a similiar question on my topic. A guy posted a pic of a VLTOR clamp under a Larue mount. Hope it answers your question:

The jigs are being manufactured at this time I hope to have them to Rainier next week.

It is designed for 0.750 barrels but would work on a  lightweight as well. I've also drilled one out to 57/64 to fit on a 0.875" barrel.

It will fit under the rail section but I don't think it will fit through the rear  part of the tube. Meaning you have to install the gas block after the tube which sucks.

+1 on the larue or MI gas block.  If your not comfortable doing it yourself any decent gunsmith should be able to handle it.
