[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Gas Block replacement issue

I replaced the gas block on my DPMS with a YHM Quad block. I have some bare metal around where the original block was. What can I do to protect the barrel from rust, meaning what type of finish can I apply at home to deal with this? I am new to AR's.

cold blue won't stop rust. Well, maybe a little, but that's it. When I run into the problem you're having, I just coat everything under the block with some sort of high temp grease.
