| Can a gas piston conversion kit be installed to be just as reliable as a gun that was put together at the factory by one of the big name gas piston ar15 manufacturers? |

Depends on which one you are talking about. Before there was a gas system like in the AR there was a gas piston system. When the AR failed the gas piston systems succeeded (see M1A1, Garand, M1 Carbine and of course the AK). Problem with a "conversion" is it is not really designed for that. A true gas system would be more like those on the above mentioned systems. Having said that, gas piston systems I have dealt with have been plenty reliable and something I would trust to function if I need it to. I hope that helps answer your vague question.

I guess what I am really trying to ask is would you trust you life on a gas conversion kit vs a factory assembled gas piston gun? I would love to have a gas piston but $2000+ for a LWRC is alot for a piston AR. |
