| I have recently finished up a build for a .223 Rem. Had a lot of fun making it, lots of custom parts and a lot of time invested. Anyway Ive turned my eye to the .300 BLK :) I want my knockdown plus the ball and chain really liked the .223 and said she wanted one so i decied im going to build up a new one for daddy. My delay is that i have no clue where to start with gas port sizes. I have a hunch that they are completely different between the two rounds. Does anybody have any knowledge as to what it should be or can at least point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. |
| I wish I could answer. I have built both 5.56 and .300 and never modified or measured the gas ports. I was at a gunsmith's shop with the 300 BLK and he measured the port at .110. I have no iea whether that's standard or not, but the gun runs fine with supersonic ammo. Subsonics –– not so much. |

Gas port sizes will depend on the length of the barrel and length of the gas system/location of the port (pistol, carbine, rifle...etc).
Example... 5.56 16" barrel carbine system, 0.750" dia at gas block = 0.068" dia. port 5.56 16" barrel mid-length, 0.750" dia at gas block = 0.075-0.082" dia. port No idea on 300 AAC This thread is in archives: 300 AAC 16"barrel carbine system = 0.107" dia Anything under 16" will be a pistol length gas system for 300 AAC http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/548291__300_Whisper_gas_port_size.html Try here too: http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=136&t=79484 |
