I'm thinking about pulling my FSB and replacing it with a unit which offers a top rail so I can use my Troy folding front sight. This is on a .750 barrel.
I notice there are units from YHM with set screws that lock into the barrel and others (Stag) with a clamp type setup. Any advantage to one or the other? I like the idea of a clamp type but have no basis for that. Is my barrel already grooved for the FSB pins and the set screws lock down on those grooves or do I have to modify the barrel somehow? Any other tips as far as the best way to make sure the unit stays firmly clamped? I'm a "range commando" so I'm not hard on the rifle. |

It should already have pin holes, since that's how a standard FSB is affixed.
The set screws DO NOT lock into the pin holes. They just tighten against the bbl. You are doing all this just to use a Troy front sight? I wouldn't bother with it, IMHO. Just keep your FSB, especially if you are using a lower 1/3 co-witness with your optic. That's alot of hassle and extra expense just to use a folding front sight. My$.02.
