Would you recommend a clamp on lo profile gas block or a set screw mount? Any problems with the clamp-on type turning? If set screw mount, how important is it to dimple the barrel? Removing front sight post for a rail and not sure which way to go on a gas block.

I prefer clamp-on, but wouldn't have a problem using set-screws on a barrel that has been dimpled (have one gun setup this way). Pinning is going to come up a lot with your question, as well it should because all it has to offer. Don't lose sleep over your gas block choices just go with a quality manufacturer. If your barrel is ready to accept a pinned gas block that is probably the best option for you.

I think the setscrew type look cleaner. I have them on several rifles and only one is dimpled. It hasn't been a problem at all.

ETA: typo

All of mine are set screwed except one.  If you plan on building more than one rifle, a gas block jig is handy.  Once you get one, dimpling a barrel is a matter of less than 5 minutes with a hand drill.

Have not decided on a rail yet, but probably about 12" rail, hence the lo-profile gas block.
