My Colt SP2 needs the gas rings replaced. I tried and it didn`t work out too good. Do I need to put Colt gas rings in? And how do I replace them?

When I tried, two out of the three rings expanded. The rifle shoots fine, but when I pull the charging handle back and ride it forward (when its empty) its not as smooth as it should be.

If the rings arn't hanging up when not riding the charging handle, go shoot 200 rounds thru the rifle. You're comparing how old, broken in rings feel with new gas rings. If the rifle cycles, don't worry about it. BSW

The thing is two of the three rings expanded when I installed them.

They are not put on by pulling them apart till they fit over the bolt all at once. You put the rings on kind of like a tire is put on a rim. One end is put on then it is kind of rolled on a little at the time going around the edge.

Or order a MacFarland one piece ring, it's kind of intuitive since it works like a keyring does.

Use a safety pin to hook one end and slip it on. Replace them as a set.

Are all Gas Rings the same? Do I have to buy Colt rings or is Bushmaster ok?

All gass rings are the same as long as you stay with a known vendor.
