Quite possibly a dumb question. Is it possible to use a rifle length gas system with a 16" barrel ?

Well I wasted post 556 on this question

I'm going to save a space to post a picture of my new build as soon as I finish my stock

Its possible, yes. As long as the gas port is opened to an optimal size.

Typically, about .097" - .110" depending on the twist rate and caliber. I have a 15" 5.56 barrel on one of my ARs with a rifle length gas system. The barrel is a 1/12 twist and the gas port was opened up to .110" and it functions flawlessly with M193 ammo. A buddy of mine recently got a 14.7" upper from PSA that has a rifle length gas system and it runs great. Very smooth shooting.

The dissipator is a carbine length gas system with a FSB pinned at the rifle length position.  Other companies have made similar barrels with mid length gas systems.  A few companies have made rifle length gas systems on 16" and even shorter barrels.  But the Bushmaster dissipator was never anything but carbine length gas system.
