So I already had an issue where the "tail" of the trigger was rubbing against the selector switch. I fixed that issue, but the trigger pull is not smooth.

The first stage has a very annoying grittiness which I understand is not characteristic of the SSA.

If I wipe down the sear surfaces, it gets VERY good immediately. However, after about 10 pulls, the grittiness starts to return until I wipe it down again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Wipe them down, and grease them with the red grease that came with it.

The pins should be lubed.  The springs should be lubed.  Any part that touches any other part should be lubed.

There is some "break in" with these units, and lube helps everything get mated properly.

I had them all lubed up with the red grease. It was MORE gritty then. I don't understand how that can happen... When I wipe it down, it gets smooth again (for a few trigger pulls at least). It is strictly the first stage sear engagement that I have an issue with.

I've never heard of that happening...ever.

Try it again with the grease.  If your lower was dirty and you got grit in the grease, that could do it.

If that doesn't work, call up Giessele, they have GREAT customer service.

I know! I am stumped!!!

This is a brand new build... never been shot and VERY clean.

The only thing I can think is that there is some sort of imperfection on the surface of the sear and wiping it down packs it with lube which makes the trigger pull clean. Then, after a few pulls, the grease wears thin around that area and the grittiness returns.

Hmmm.... not sure what to say... mine is smooth as glass, almost eerie.  I shot almost 300 rounds over yesterday and it worked just as well at the end of the session as it did at the beginning.

Might call Geissele... might have gotten a bad one.

I have inspected the sear surface as well as I can and do not see any scratches or knicks either.

Might just need to shoot it and break it in.

Either way if there is a problem, they'll take care of you no question.

I've installed 2 SSA triggers myself, and have never had this issue as well?

Even when running a can, and carbon and gunk is all over the lower's internals, the first stage is smooth as butter for me, and I get a (relatively) clean break on the trigger.

However, trigger sensation is relatively subjective.  I'd call up Geiselle and ask for guidance

sounds like you need a new safety selector as it may still be rubbing. There is no annoying grittiness characteristic of the SSA.

I have tried removing the safety selector and the issue is still present. It is also not present when the hammer is forward or pushed down slightly from resting against the trigger sear. It is 100% for certain the first stage sear. The second stage break is as clean as I expect (carrot, not icicle...).

You have Calcific Tendonitis in your trigger finger.

I suggest waiting a couple of months and letting you lord and master pay for your finger surgery.

LOL, I can HEAR the grinding when I put my ear to the lower receiver. Nice try.

What lower receiver and parts kit are currently installed?  Its possible that the SSA could be bad, its also possible you are getting issues from other parts.  If you pull the safety and work the trigger, how is the feel?

The problem still exists when the safety selector is removed.

The lower receiver is a mega forged. The LPK is CMT/Stag. I did have issues with the safety selector (rubbing against trigger tail), but those have been resolved (by grinding away the safety selector).

Elessar,

Is your hammer new enough to be laser marked?  If so there may be a lot number on the hammer.  Please get a hold of me with that lot number.

Part of the function of the lot # is to identify the trigger tech and what they did to each component.  Corrective action will be taken.

thanks

Mine was purchased last year and is Hand Engraved. It was no problem really, although before I noticed when I first attempted to install it, it didn't go very well . The only reason I mentioned it was just a reminder to always check your parts.

I am having problems with a SSA trigger resetting, it works in my low shelf lowers with no problem but not in the one low shelf lower. every now and then I will have to turn the safety of manually push the trigger forward to get it to reset. is this common?

I cannot really understand what you are saying in your reply, but these triggers are freaking outstanding and if you have one and don't feel it is freaking outstanding than something is most likely not right in general terms.  I would like to think that when somebody experiences the first pull on one of these units, they slap themselves in disgust over just now using one....my face was blood red

just to be clear, I actuallly have 2 SSAs, and one Match. and love them.

what I am saying is in one of my lowers which is a high shelf lower, the SSA trigger when performing a function check will not reset( pull charging handle, squeeze trigger hammer shall fall, while holding the trigger, pull charging handle, release trigger you should hear an audible click) no click
before I can pull the trigger again I have to turn the safety selector or manually push the trigger forward. The same trigger works perfectly in a LOW shelf lower. just wondering if anybody has any ideas on why?

the trigger is dragging on your out of spec safety selector. It has nothing to do with the lower. You can file the side of the safety where its dragging, or buy a new safety that is in spec.
