If i wanted to change my 5.56/.223 upper out for a .308 upper. Would I have to change the lower receiver trigger assembly and what not?

You would need a whole new lower reciever. If you want a larger caliber and still be able to use a standard lower you could do 6.8. .300 blackout, etc.

Yes, the magwell has to be longer to take .308 magazines. On the plus side, it's an excuse to buy/make a new rifle.

.308 is a much larger/longer cartrige than a .223.
Nothing compatible between the 2...

+1.....do this unless you want to get into a whole new world.  The 6.8 would be my choice.  It won't reach out quite as far as the .308 with as much thump, but it will do better than your 5.56.

I know the DPMS 308 lower can use the AR15 trigger sets..

They also use std grips, and stocks (though they need a 308 buffer and spring assy)

Handguards/FF tubes are another animal.. just go with Troy MRF on it.. (thats what you will here).. Lol

Some have dremmeled the MagPul MOE handguard and got it to work on 308 barrels.. FWIW..
