I have a RRA 9mm setup on my AR but I cant get 9mm ammo...  I am 19 and will  so no dealers will sell it to me.  I know you can buy it at 18 as long as its for a rifle but I just cant get anyone to sell it to me.  Every shop I go into looks at me like im a alien when I ask for some 9mm when they see im 19.  And every online shop requires you to be 21 as well.

Wierd really? They normally ask the: "Is this for a rifle or pistol?" question but thats it. Try Walmart maybe?

GL man, just make sure it really is for your rifle and you don't get caught with a pistol hehe.

Don't quote me on this but I think the rule is if you are going to use the ammo in a rifle, 18 is the age so you CAN get someone else who is > 21 to buy it for you.  To me a shill purchase would be to subvert the law, not to comply.....

I don't know this for sure so don't take this as legal advice.

Show them your rifle, say you might let them shoot it if you can buy some ammo for your RIFLE.

Usually works.

+1 on Wally world, if they aren't a bunch of tools they should sell it to you.  White Box value packs are good ammo for the money.

The local gun store here said thye will sell pistol ammo to people as long as they could prove they would be using it in a rifle. I think you can order from ammunitionstore.com without an ID copy... but I've never tried.

take your rifle in with you, and show them it is for a rifle. It is OK to sell pistol ammo to someone "underage" if they are using it in a rifle.

I think it goes without saying to only bring your rifle into the gun shop and not one of the local department stores or sporting goods stores.

How will online stores know you're 21? Order with a credit card and you're good to go....

I've ordered from Cheaperthandirt.com and Natchezss.com with no problems.

Normally, they require a copy of a driver's license.  Some don't though.  I assume that you have parents?  Try having your dad order a case of ammo for you so you'll be good to go for awhile.

In wisconsin, I believe that the law is 18 to possess handgun ammo and 21 to buy it.  It's stupid I know.  Try buying some 308 and after the sale is made, tell the clerk that the 308 ammo is for your contender pistol.  Watch their face after you tell them that!

Ok I was kidding about telling the clerk that but it would make them think a bit!  Just make sure to follow you local laws, no matter how stupid you think that they are.  You'll be 21 before you know it.

Yep, you can also posses a handgun at 18, you just can't buy it for yourself until you're 21.
