I currently have a pair of silencios, but I was wondering what you all use for shooting with your ar15/m16 type weapons. I use ear plugs as well.  The "muffs" (sounds kind of funny) annoy the hell out of me when I shoot. They are just in the way. When I only use plugs, my ears are not fully protected. Any suggestions or ways around this problem. As I only have one AR (as of now) with an A2 stock, something needs to change. THANKS!!

I just pull the plugs out a bit....

I like to hear a nice loud boom.... but not so much ringing in my ears :) I can adjust my BOOM decibels quite easily this way

I just use regular orange ear plugs.  They work great.  Muffs are too big and don't offer the same level of protection.  Case in point, I shot my 870 with slugs in it wearing muffs.  Still made my ears ring just the slightest.

Peltor makes about the best ear muffs out there for all day wear. Problem with muffs and rifles is some times the muffs get lifted off the ear from the gun stock.  Custom made ear plugs are about the best for all day with a rifle. those foam ear plugs will start to hurt after awhile.

How would I get custom ear plugs made? Is that something that your MD would have to do?

I also like wearing muffs over the plugs.
I like the electronic muffs because I still can hear what others around me are doing/saying even over the plugs. Good plan when training a guest  or newbie as they have a chance of hearing . When they pull off the muffs when somebody else is still shooting (newbies always do !) they will still not blow out their ears. (because of the plugs)
I might be wrong but seems to me if you are ringing your ears you are also causeing dammage. This is correct yes?

Where did you get yours at? I'd like to try a custom plug, but have only seen them for several hundred dollars.

Ear plugs, and muffs.

A constant ringing in ones' ears (for 20+ years, now) is no fun.  Trust me on this.

try local IPSC area champoinship matches. usally theres a guy there doing it. At least at area 8's last year there was.

You can ask your md, but I'll bet he will forward to an ear spec.

Wear plug or ear muffs, cig butts just dont cut it for .25 a set of throw aways will cost you.
