I just got a new AR, it shoots .223 and I was curious what the good ammo manufacturers were for the caliber. Walmart had a couple brands like Tul ammo but I wanted to know what the better brands were.

Cheap imported ammo is cheaper on average, but not made to any specific specs. Spec ammo lime M193 or M855 is a little better. Match ammo costs much more, but is match grade. Try a bunch of different ones to see what you like and what your rig likes. Start by picking a bullet weight range that matches your bbl twist. This was a nice simple study on ammo. http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-vs-steel-cased-ammo/#reliable |

Any ammo is good ammo.
I bought from freedommunitions.com before I started to reload. Long story short on steel cased ammo: clean your chamber and there is almost no difference to the average shooter in performance. If you don't clean your chamber you run a higher risk of a stuck casing vs. brass rounds. |
